Is there a group canoe trip in Värmland?

✓ Last checked: · Valid for the 2026–2027 season· 5 min read

Short answer

Yes. Solo travellers aged 20–39 can join WeAdventures' 8-day group canoe trip of up to 15 people, which starts at Outpost North in Gustavsfors and loops through Lelång, Järnsjön, Västra Silen and Östra Silen (from €935). A group of friends or a club can book canoe packages or a group programme at Outpost North, or book The Canoe Trip per pair. For a one-way river trip in a group, the Klarälven timber rafts take up to six people each.

“Group trip” can mean two things: you travel alone and want to join a group, or you bring your own group and want someone to sort out the canoes.

You travel alone and want a group

WeAdventures runs an 8-day canoe trip in Nordmarken for solo travellers. The organiser puts the group together, and a WeCaptain travels with it.

The 2026 departures in June and August sold out. Dates for 2027 are not out yet, and you can pre-register. No canoe experience is needed, but you should be reasonably fit: the portages mean carrying.

If you are a little outside 20–39, the organiser asks you to email before you book.

You already have a group

Friends, a family reunion, a sports club, a scout group: here you choose between canoe packages you plan yourselves and an organised self-guided week.

Book canoe packages and plan it yourselves

Outpost North in Gustavsfors sells canoe packages for two people that start on any day you choose and last 1 to 14 days, with the route in an app, a map and the nature card included. In 2027 a canoe costs €80 a day in May, €95 in June, €115 from 1 July to 13 August, €95 until 1 September and €85 after that. A third person on the middle seat adds €4 a day, and a one-person kayak package costs €45–60 a day. Its base sits between Lelång and Västra Silen, so a group can launch together and paddle a loop without a bus transfer.

For 16 people or more it has group bookings: programmes for companies, schools and scout groups in May, June and September. Scout groups can do multi-day canoe routes with wild camps on a lower budget; company and school groups get catered camping at the base, activities such as kayaking, SUP and archery, and guides. Each group gets its own quote, so there is no list price.

Book The Canoe Trip per pair

The Canoe Trip books per person, with one canoe for every two people. A group books several canoes on the same start date (Sundays or Thursdays), and the trip always lasts 8 days. The package costs from €265 per person in 2026 and includes canoe, barrel, cookset, map, nature card and lock pass.

  • Odd numbers: add a third seat to a canoe or take a one-person kayak. The organiser suggests the third seat only for groups of five or more.
  • Limited canoes: only a set number go out each week, so book together and early. 2027 bookings open on 12 November.
  • Pace: the whole group paddles the same loop, which is easier to agree on if you pick the route before you leave.

What a week on that loop looks like is in a 5- or 7-day canoe trip in Värmland.

Rules that matter for groups

The Dalsland–Nordmarken nature card has two rules that bite once you are more than a handful.

  • Groups of more than five must sleep at the DANO campsites.
  • You cannot reserve a campsite. A group of twelve may arrive at a site where another canoe already camps, and you share it.

Without a card, the fee on the spot for more than five people is 1,000 SEK. The card costs 80 SEK per person per night (2026), under 12 free. A large group can split into two teams that camp on different islands and meet up during the day.

Group options elsewhere in Värmland

On the Klarälven in northern Värmland, Vildmark i Värmland sells self-guided timber raft trips. A raft takes up to six people; a group needs at least five per raft, two of them adults aged 18 or over, and every adult must be able to swim. Clubs, organisations and companies of 10 to 50 people get a group rate: 4,110 SEK per person for the 8-day raft in June and late August 2027, against 5,990 SEK at the normal adult rate. It is a one-way trip down a slow river, and you build the raft yourselves before you set off.

Nordmarken lake loop Klarälven timber raft
Shape Loop, back at the start One way, downstream, with a ride back
Daily effort Paddling 12–20 km, portages on some routes Mostly drifting with the current
Group set-up Canoes for two (or three), side by side Up to six people per raft
Nights Island campsites with fireplaces and shelters Tent on the river bank
Best for Groups who want to move and choose their route Groups who want slow, shared time on one deck

In canoes each pair keeps its own pace and the group meets up at camp. More detail in raft or canoe on the Klarälven.
